What motivates you to take this dangerous challenge?

“It is the first ever attempt by Qataris and it involves the sea, which I love. It also involves team effort and collaboration, which brings a lot of commitment and value. It also adds to one’s experiences in life. I always aim for unique challenges and this one is just like no other; especially when you know that the number of people who swam across the channel is less than those who have climbed Mountain Everest.”

How important is sport in your life?

“It has always been a vital part of my everyday life. I like adventures, and sport has taken me to all corners of the world. I have visited more than 60 countries, sailed 5,000 km in two oceans, cycled 2,000 kms in ten countries and climbed five mountains in four continents.

Charitable causes have also motivated me a lot to take on some serious challenges, among which is scaling some of the highest mountains in the World.  My dear friend, Talal Al Emadi and I, climbed Kilimanjaro the highest mountain in Africa to highlight food crisis in the continent, for the Qatar Charity’s “Challenge for Life”.  Thereafter, to raise awareness about the suffering of children in Yemen, we conquered mountain Aconcagua in Argentina which is the highest peak in western and southern hemispheres. It makes me feel so proud.”

What are your other achievements in sport?

“I am a former national record holder in freediving, with 5:12 minutes of underwater static breath hold and 40.3 meters of constant weight diving with one breath.”

What is your favourite motivational quote?

” “Don’t worry about failure, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try”, Jack Canfield.”
